Did you know that there are still millions of people living without electricity today? I’m Katherine Morua, founder and CEO of Morua Power, a Latina-owned social impact engineering firm connecting underrepresented communities to power. I was born in Colombia and my family and I immigrated to the US, chasing the dream of opportunity. I knew what it felt like to not have it, so when I became an engineer I decided I wanted to give that light of opportunity to others.
Growing up, I saw people who had incredibly innovative ideas but lacked the basic infrastructure needed to run businesses, pursue reliable incomes, and access promising opportunities. These were the very opportunities my family and I sought when we immigrated to the US. and the reason I wanted to start Morua Power.
I wanted to use engineering as a way to truly impact, not just systems, governments, and institutions, but people’s lives. Our mission is to build an equitable, sustainable, and just world by scaling, developing, and implementing clean energy systems for communities in need.
